1978 Maxwell Award to Otago lecturer
The cost and management] accounting division of the! Society of Accountants has announced that the recipient of the 1978 Maxwell Award, made in recognition of contributions to the activities of I that division of the society, |is Mr J. M. Freeman, senior ;lecturer in accounting at the 'school of business at the University of Otago.
From 1967 until 1977, Mr Freeman was a member of the Otago branch committee of the division, acting as chairman in 1969. He was a member of the national executive of the divisional committee from 1971 until 1977, serving as chairman of the division in 1975 and 1976. He [was a member of the soc-i iiety’s board of research and publications from 1976 until 1978. Before his university appointment, Mr Freeman was cost accountant and later company secretary with Tekau Knitwear Ltd, and subsidiary companies. He was accounting consultant with! Arthur Young and Company, London for 1970 when he undertook varied management accounting assignments in England and Ireland.
For 1978 and until this month, Mr Freeman has been on leave from the University
of Otago undertaking research and teaching in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. He was visiting research associate, department of management studies, University of Technology, Loughborough, and visiting professor for the fall quarter at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, teaching management accounting. The Maxwell Award was instituted in 1955 by Mr T. I. Maxwell, of Auckland, a past president of the Institute of Cost Accountants.
