Women’s water polo

By

RAY CAIRNS

With only an eye injury! sufi'ered by Maranufs captain, Jo Barker, to disturb the predict-' able order of things, section; play in the second round of the national women’s inter-club' water polo championship went as! expected at Queen Elizabeth llj Park yesterday. With Maranui deprived of) Barker’s vital presence in the | middle portions of the game against Pegasus A — though the result was then beyond doubt — Pegasus A duly won the match, the section, and probably a place in the final, for it now meets North Beach in this morning’s semi-finals. None of the other games played a vital part towards the sectional positions, except for North Beach’s struggle against Hutt, and Whakatane’s win against Upper Hutt. which ensured it of third place in Section 11. In the same section, Wharenui. without a win till then, had a meritorious victory against New-i market. B, then, justifying its! ranking as the tournament’s I most improved team, contained! Maranui very well. Final points in section play,| with goals for and against in. parentheses, were:—
