PA Wellington, Pope John Paul has con-1 firmed the appointment of the Rev John Coleman, national director of the Catholic Communications Centre, Wellington, as consultant to the Pontifical Commission for Social Communications at the Vatican. This is the first time a New Zealander has been appointed to the commission. His appointment came from Pope Paul VI last July, shortly before that Pope’s death,’ and has now been confirmed. Father Coleman is at 1 present a religious con-; suitant to TVI, secretary oft U.N.D.A. Oceania, and a] [member of the world board, 'of U.N.D.A., the inter-! , national association for j [radio and television. i Father Coleman was edu-i Icated at St Kevin’s College,! Oamaru, and studied philo-[ . sophy and theology at Holy; [Cross College. Mosgiel. I He was ordained a priest ! iin 1957 and appointed to j (broadcasting work in 1909. [He also studied journalism, (script writing, radio drama, [and production, and began (television work in 1961. ( Father Coleman has studlied aspects of the news media in North America.’ Europe and Asia.
