Schoolboys’ cricket
Canterbury sides performed well on the first day of the South Island primary schoolboys’ cricket tournament at Pollard Park, Blenheim yesterday. Canterbury B beat Marlborough outright while Canterbury A, South Canterbury and North Canterbury all won on the first innings. Many good individual performances were recorded. Scores were:

North Otago 110 (G. McKay 34; M. Hogue 4/44, C. Hunter 4/26) and 47/9 dec. *G. Avery 6/21i beat Buller 48 (C. Smillie 7/16) and 93 (B. Kerr 30 not out; N. Dodd 7/29 L North Canterbury 204 (C. Rolfe 73. T. Merrin 58) beat Central Otago 103 (M. Bleach 36; Plaskett 7/36).
