Kaikoura sea rescue
The Kaikoura lifeboat Rescue II was called out at 4 p.m. yesterday to tow the disabled Kaikoura fishing boat Sea Queen to Kaikoura. The Sea Queen broke a fuel pipe and the boat’s bilges filled with fuel, causing the motor to be shut down off Waipapa Point. 24km north of Kaikoura.
Mr J. Middleton, who fishes from Waipapa, went to the Sea Queen’s assistance and towed it south to Hapuku, where Rescue II took over the tow to Kaikoura. The Sea Queen is owned and worked by Mr T. Ruawai. of Kaikoura. Sea conditions at the time were calm.
