Trieste bright prospect
I Special correspondent Dunedin | Trieste, beaten but not disgraced in the Waikouaiti ; Cup last Monday, is favoured to win the Kurow Cup at (Kurow tomorrow. 1 Trieste was forced wide from an outside draw in the Waikouaiti Cup and she ran keenly near the lead until the home straight then dropped back to eighth. She won her previous start by seven lengths a week earlier when successful in the 2200 m Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap at Wingatui on a heavy track. Golden Gate, which is of no use in heavy ground, followed up a sixth in the Dunedin Cup with a second to Prodigal over 2100 m at Washdyke last Saturday. Given a firm track he should be in the thick of the finish. Padlock came home well for fourth in the Waikouaiti Cup and he should be prominent in what appears a weaker field. Midknight, to be tried in blinkers, could show his form at the Otago meeting wrong. Flying View, a solid finishing fourth at Washdyke last Saturday, looks the best chance in the Munro Handicap second leg of the T.A.B. double. Selections: — 12.5 p.m.—First Maiden: Clas- I sic Art, Canary Gold, Doug's Pal. 12.40 p.m.—South Island Handicap: Yakcam, Sportsgate, Ahi Ua. 1.15 p.m.—First Waitaki Maiden: Miss Cheval, Big Ben. 1.50 p.m.—Domett Handicap: Piparyl, War«eggan, Skid Row. 2.25 p.m.—Second Maiden: Final Surge, Laurel, Country Link. 3.5 p.m.—Kurow Cup: Trieste, Golden Gate, Padlock. 3.40 P.m. —Second Waitaki Maiden: Main Chance, Nuvale, Gay Rover. 4.15 p.m.—Munro Handicap: Flying View, El Nicky, Even Al. 4.55 p.m.—Hakataramea Handicap: Charaxus, Cruisemaster, Siiverbay. 5.35 p.m.—Delargy Handicap: Double Gate, Light Flight, The Firs.
