Quiet Hobart race
NZPA Hobart. The Sydney yacht Vanessa, the centre of controversy in last year's classic, was among the last yachts to finish in the 1978 Hitachi Sydney to Hobart race. Late yesterday Vanessa, skippered by Brian Jaggar, was II miles from the finish line and one of the last six yachts still to complete the 360 mile journey. Last year Vanessa was disqualified for failing to radio her position in the aftermath of air and sea searches for yachts which had been reported missing. The retirement of New Zea-
.lands Acrux and the 35ft ferro- . cement yacht Cliquot yesterday afternoon stretched the withdrawals from this year’s race to >llO. I With the remaining 81 yachts already in Hobart alter one of the quietest Sydney to Hoban races on record, there have been I no changes to divisional plac--1 ings. Outright winner on corrected time, the Sydney sloop Lo\ c and War is the provisional winner of division A while in other divisions the provisional winners are Deception (division B>, Streaker (division C) and Peacock (division D).
