Man dies in river tragedy
Greymouth reporter .An Invercargill man was drowned in the Paringa River on Saturday evening. He was Charles Gordon Sheed, who was in his 50s. Mr Sheed and two companions were checking fords along the river in a jet boat. They stopped the motor to I have a look at a ford and were unable to restart it. The water then swept the: boat downstream, crashing it into some logs, and the' three men were thrown into: the river. One, a good swimmer, was 1 able to assist a second to , shore, but Mr Sheed disappeared, according to Constable R. Millard, of Haast. The body was recovered about an hour later, and taken to Greymouth for a post-mortem examination.
