Spartan Prince for cup tonight
By G. K. YULE ’ Spartan Prince failed bv 'half a length to catch First Prize in the Stewards’ Trotting Free-for-all last evening jbut he should have his rev 'enge when he reverts to a I standing start in the Can-’ terbury Park Cup at Addinglion Racewav this evening. Fust Prize opened up a handy lead earlv last night, with Spartan Prince a good way back in fifth place after starting from the second line. Spartan Prince responded gamely in the run home but his sprint was not quite as (strong as expected. Nevertheless, the race should improve him and he is expected to i go close to winning. Scotch Tar was favourite last night, but he broke badly, after about 200 m and dropped; right out. He finished seventh I without looking a serious threat but he will onlv have to trot kindly to prove morel
than a match for most in this race. First Prize is not noted lor her consistency, but her best efforts are really good, as she showed with her success last evening. She is capable of a merry 2600 m and will be one of the brighter chances. If there is to be an upset Sharmbro could cause it. He trotted his best race for a long time when he came on for third last night and will only have to go as smoothlv to be a threat. Lord Rodney was twice placed at the cup meeting in November and has not raced since. Those efforts entitle him to consideration and along with Our One and a fresh runner in Pointer Hanover he appeals most of the others. Bronze Queen,. Uncle Andrew and Port View are a fancied trio for the second leg, the Farewell Stakes.
