More holiday crash victims die
A Dunedin woman died in Christchurch Hospital on Saturday from injuries she suffered in a motor accident 10 days ago. She was Patricia Flanagan Gray, aged 46, married. Mrs Gray was injured in an accident on the comer of Waterloo Road and Baxters Road, Islington, on December 22. A woman and two children were killed, and five other persons injured in a crash on the Southern Motorway at. Papakura early on Saturday afternoon. They were Judith Anne Reid, aged 20, married, of Manurewa, Elizabeth Mabel Mini Diaz, a baby aged three months, and Antonio Pedro Diaz, a baby aged seven months. All five who survived the crash were reported by Middlemore Hospital to have serious head injuries. One of the injured was the driver, a man who was trapped for 15 minutes In the wreckage of his car on the bridge spanning the Papakura Stream. Karen Evans, of 73 Tainui Street, Somerfield, was admitted to Christchurch Hospital overnight on Saturday, after a motor-cycle and a car collided at the comer of Gloucester Street and Oxford Terrace that afternoon. She suffered minor head injuries: she was discharged on Sunday. Nine persons were admitted to the Reef ton and Grey hospitals after a two-car collision near Goings Bridge on the Canterbury side of the Lewis Pass on Saturday evening. A Dunedin couple, their three sons, and a relative were in one car. and three Christchurch persons were in the other vehicle. Mr Victor Grey, of Dunedin. suffered chest and abdominal injuries, his wife Kay head injuries, and
their sons, Jason, aged eight {broken bones in arm and | leg, Braddan, aged six, concussion, Aubrey, aged four, ; head injuries, and Mrs i Grey’s brother, Neville 'Annan of Auckland, head injuries. In the other car, were Malcolm Barry (broken foot), Elisabeth Harvey I (bruising), and Anne Ralfe I (minor internal injuries and bruising). and a car collided at the corner of Madras Street and Tuam Street. His condition was not available last eventing. A woman, aged 19, who was involved in the same accident, was treated for cuts and discharged. Susan Eileen Wright, aged 20, of 298 Barbadoes Street, was also involved in a collision between a motor-cycle and a car last evening. The accident occurred at the corner of Hereford Street and Madras Street. She suffered cuts and a broken leg. Her condition also was not available. A woman aged 22, is in the intensive-care unit of the Waiau Hospital, Blenheim" after her car left State Highway one at Parakawa railway station, 27 miles north of Kaikoura, at 7 p.m. on Sunday. She is Marie Anne Bruce, of 19 Kings Avenue, Waikuku. The brand-new small car she was driving is a write- { off. After leaving the road near the station the car crossed a two-metre wide ditch and snapped off a telegraph post 300 metres further on. Traffic on roads in the Christchurch district has been light to moderate in the last three days. The greatest number of breath and blood tests was taken on Saturday — 14 of each. On Sunday, one breath test and one blood test were taken, and to 5 p.m. yesterday none was taken. Traffic was light in Christchurch on Sunday and moderate yesterday, said a Ministry of Transport spokesman. However beach roads were busy.
