Mourners gather
i NZPA-Reuter Algeria President Houari Boumedienne will be buried in Ali geria’s martyrs’ cemetery j today (N.Z. time) before a I distinguished array of world {figures and thousands of : grief-stricken countrymen. Along with foreign heads of State and other political figures, the world heavyweight boxing champion, Muhammad Ali, will also be | present, the official Algerian i news agency, A.P.S. reported. Ali was one of a 16-mem-ber United States delegation, led by the Treasury Secre- : tary (Mr Michael Blumenthal) and including President Jimmy Carter’s son, Chip, it jadded. President Boumedienne’s >body was due to be taken ' from the Palais du Peuple. where it has lain in state | since his death two days ago ' after a six-week coma, to Algiers’ main mosque for a J funeral service beginning at 'midnight New Zealand time. A gun-carriage will carry , President Boumedienne’s body through the streets of . Algiers to the cemetery out--1 side the city on a route of ’ about 20km. With part of the cortege . following on foot, the funer;al is expected to last foi i several hours.
