Thieves net $2M in airport raid
NZPA Caracas Thieves have broken into a storage room used by the Dutch airline, KLM, and' stole an estimated SUS2M in foreign currency, watch parts, and other valuables, the Venezuelan police have reported. A communique said the theft was discovered on Wednesday at Simon Bolivar airport in nearby La Guaira and airport employees were being questioned. The newspaper, “El Universal,” said it could be the biggest cash theft in Venezuelan history. It said the [cash was taken from ; supposedly burglar-proof site. On December 11, at Kennedy Airport in New York five robbers entered the cargo area of Lufthansa, the German airline, and escaped iwith an estimated SUS 7 mil)lion in United States currency. and SUSBSO,OOO in jewels and foreign money. Ten employees were handcuffed by the robbers in that raid that is believed to be the largest cash haul in American history.
