Three cool skydivers

A crowd of about 500 watched three naked parachutists who bared all as they dived 6500 feet into the grounds of the Pineglades Sun Club at Rolleston yesterday. The three members of the Canterbury Skydiving Club, Messrs. D. McLeod. A. McCord, and VV. Oquist, all landed within metres of the target laid out in the recreation area of the camp. Five parachutists were to [have made the jump but be-.

cause of a 20-knot easterly wind and the many trees in the area, the two less experienced divers decided not to jump. Mr McLeod said that he had agreed to the naked jump because it was . a novelty. His flatmate was-’ a member of the Canterbury .Sun Club and when she had 'asked him to do the jump he had agreed and had “roped in” two friends. The temperature at 6500 ft !was 17deg and the para-

chutists did not complain of the cold, as other nude parachutists had done when they dived at the club four years; ago. Dr John Moffat, the patron of the Canterbury Sun Club officially opened the rally. He said nakedness mad? each man equal and only when dressed were the socio-economic differences between people clear. People were born naked because they were made in the image of God, he said.
