Young skaters catch eye
Young artistic competitors took the limelight at the New Zealand roller skating championships at Canterbury Court yesterday afternoon. Lance Behague (Napier) followed his success in the primary boys’ free skating with a win in the figures to ensure him of the over-all title. Robert Keen (Nelson) was runner-up in both events.
Last year's juvenile boys’ champion, Brian Hodge (Auckland), found the step up to junior company no trouble. He won the figures title from Stephen Signal
(Papatoetoe) with the titleholder, Jonathan Leatham (Gisborne) unable to do better than third. Karen James (Roll-; erdrome) emerged the winner from a big entry in the primary girls’ figures to give the Christchurch club its first success of the championships.
