Trevira bright prospect at Addington
By
G. K. YULE
Trevira, one of the brightest pacing stars to emerge for some time, was having only bis third start after a long lay-off when he won the Ashburton Cup last Tuesday. He meets a similar field in the President’s Stakes at Addington Raceway on Monday and from No. 1 at the barrier he should win again.
Trevira looked certain to benefit from his Ashburton Cup run and on Monday he will meet many of his rivals on 10m, more favourable terms, which will result in him starting a firm favourite. Mack Dougal was considered most unlucky at Ashburton and his third was full of merit. He has a fine record from behind the mobile barrier and two starts back won a flying mile on a slushy" track on this course. He has a fast time to his credit over, 2600 m and should be in the I
thick of the finish. i Rebecca’s Pride finished gamely to beat all but Trevira on Tuesday and once more he must be considered, but this time he might find Ganya hard to contend with. Ganya was hampered in the run home in the Ashburton Cup and there was merit in his fourth nlacing. Timely Robin. Bad Luck and Main Star did not contest the Ashburton Cup All are horses of great ability and they could add interest; 1 to the finish. i,
! The first appearance of Spartan Prince in Jack Smolenski’s colours will create interest in the one mile Stewards’ Free-for-all. Spartan Prince should be improved as a result of his race at Ashburton on Tuesday when he was left in the open for almost the whole way. Our One. a stylish winner in New Zealand record time for 2400 m on Tuesday, Scotch Tar, Game Pointer and First Prize appeal most of the remainder.
