Jockeys to miss Cup

PA Tauranga The Te Awamutu jockeys, J. Grylls and C. McNab, seem likely to miss choice rides in the $125,000 Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on Monday after a four-horse fall at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club’s meeting at Tauranga yesterday. The incident occurred 600 m from home in the Rarotongan Handicap when Arturo (J. Grylls) fell, bringing down All Nite (G. Barkla), Transcend (C. McNab) and Burnmoor Rock (A. Tweedie). Grylls suffered fractured ribs in the fall and was admitted to Tauranga Hospital McNab injured his ankle and was to have the injury X-rayed on his return home. G. Barkla was badly shaken but Tweedie escaped without injury. Grylls is booked to ride Braless in. the Auckland Cup and McNab is down to ride the Waikato and Benson and Hedges Cup winner, Bahrein.
