Getting together your holiday wardrobe
as you read this, you may well be on your holiday basking lazily in the sun or, perhaps, preparing to set off.
Our take-away or sta; - at-home wardrobes need not be super extensive but versatility of wear is a must. Now, girls, let's consider what will take us
through a summer holida
If you require new swimwear, a swimsuit is a must and the new styles are superb. We don’t hear much about the bikini any more, but most anxious sun-worshippers will still wear one.
The sundress — uncluttered in style in plain washable fabrics or tropical, island-in-the-sun prints, is a must for the young and mature woman alike. Then there’s the new trouser. Now, of course, it’s slightly wide on the hip with tapering legs finishing around the ankle.
For those ladies who may believe that this new look is nut for them — give the style a chance, as
some are extremely flattering for the fuller legs. They are also more versatile than the casual jean styles of recent years. They can be dressed up with silk shirts and stilletos for evening or turned into boating and sporting attire with a matching shirt jacket. To make a further change team them up with a boob-tube, or T-shirt and flat sandies and you’ve an-
other look again. Yes, the new summer slacks in lightweight cottons and linens in natural colours are more versatile than most fashion garments for this summer. If you are dressing for Christmas day, Off to dinner or just going to a slightly swept-up barbecue,’a pretty little dress would fit the bill worn with casual or dressy footwear.
Now. let’s imagine we are packing or arranging our holiday wardrobes. Here is a list: Swimsuit Sundress 1 short-sleeved T-shirt 1 long-sleeved T-shirt 1 boob-tube or similar top 1 pair of trousers I matching cotton anorak or super shirt 1 pair of jeans 1 skirt
1 pretty dress or party dress 1 pair stilletos or dressy shoes 1 pair of sandies or pumps Scarves. sun-glasses, and accessories That little lot could almost fit into a week-end bag and yet you need never say: “I’ve nothing to wear.” From my experience, I
find it is wiser to purchase one of each garment rather than two skirts, four tops, three slacks, etc., as inevitably you’ll favour one Unly and wear it more. The others will hang, proving to be rather a waste of money and it is impossible to say you’ll get more wear out of them next year. You know. yourself, that if you don’t want to
wear anything now there’s no way you’ll wear it in 12 months time — there will be newer and more exciting separates around then. And if you du buy only one of each item it is easier to go up a cog in quality. We New Zealanders are still inclined to buy more than one of everything and short-change ourselves in quality.
