NZPA Perth The New Zealand skipper, Chris Dickson, ant-, his crew, David Mackay, have wen the world 420-class title at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Perth.

They had earlier reached 14th place in the Fico Marine medallion race, the final heat in the world youth sailing championships. The New Zealanders built up a tremendous lead in the first five heats of the six-heat series to beat Australia, by six points. The Australian skipper,

Rodney Beautreaux, and his crew, Geoff Backshall, both come from Perth. New Zealand’s Peter Kempkers was third in the Laser world youth championships. The winner was the United States’ Andrew Menkart and second was Willie Packer (Perth).
