Industrial care advised

NZPA Wellington The industrial relations scene will need careful handling over the coming months, according to the Opposition spokesman on industrial relations (Mr A. J. Faulkner). Mr Faulkner, after the first meeting of the Labour Party’s caucus committee on industrial relations, said that many of the present difficulties were the direct result of the Government’s ineptitude. “If there is a strike of airline pilafs, the Government must accept that this is the result of its hasty merger of the two Stat e-owned airlines, which was done without full consultation with the staff down the line,” Mr Faulkner said.

He urged the Government to drop the union ballots policy as a gesture of good will. “New Zealand faces many real economic and social problems. We should concentrate on solving these rather than continue to divide society with trouble-making, meaningless procedures,” Mr Faulkner said.
