Wizard appears in court

lan Brackenbury Channell, known as the Wizard, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to face a charge of trading in the street without a licence.

On December 20, 1977, he had told a Christchurch City Council officer he intended to sell a game in Cathedral •Square. He was told that he | would breach by-laws if he ! sold the game but Channell said he was not selling the game for profit and therefore was not breaching any bylaw.

Because of the complicated nature" of the case, Mr N. L. Bradford, S.M., adjourned his decision to February J. He excused the defendant from attending court on that day, saying that if he was convicted he would be discharged under section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act and would not be fined.
