Mrs Margaret Sandford, her children and nieces, have a short rest on nev. seats provided by the Christchurch City Council in the new' landscaped area where the Papanui Memorial Hall used to stand. In the foreground is the First World War memorial plaque and a building stone
first laid by the Waimairi County chairman in 1922. Council staff commissioned new Papanui traffic lights this week, replacing the familiar round-about. The new rest area has trees, shrubs, brick paving and public toilets; the area was designed by the parks and recreation department, and
built by Morgan and Pop lard, Ltd. In the Sydenham shopping centre, another landscaped rest area with brick paving has been built by Canterbury Landscapes at the corner of Byron and Colombo Streets. That was also designed and authorised by the council.
