Centenarian dead
PA Hastings Hawke’s Bay’s bestknown centenarian, Mrs Caroline Turner Williams, has died in Havelock North. She was 107. Mrs Turner Williams was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1871. When she was eight, she moved to Mansfield Wood House, England, with the rest of her family. Tn 1901 she married Arthur Edw-ard Williams, the
youngest son of Bishop Leonard Williams, Napier. At the end of 1918 the couple sailed to New Zealand and spent their first three years in the country at Taradale, before moving to Havelock North. In the early 19205, Mrs Turner Williams assisted Miss Jerone Spencer in establi s h i n g country women’s institutes, first in Hawke’s Bay and later in other North Island and South Island areas.
