Two years jail for fraud

An unemployed man who defrauded the Post Office of $760 was jailed for two years by Mr Justice Somers in the Supreme Court. The man, John Francis Johnson, aged 36, had pleaded guilty to three charges of forging cheques and seven of using Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal slips to ob= tain a pecuniary advantage.

Mr D. M. Palmer appeared for Johnson.

His Honour said that Johnson had forged cheques to the value of $350 and he had obtained $760 to which he was not entitled by Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal slips. The offences occurred between January 20 and April 2E
