Greyhounds Sarkhan sal too good in futurity

Sarkhan Sal convincingly won the 1978 Canterbury Futurity Stakes at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. The large crowd, tempted both by the mild evening and the third totalisator meeting held by the club, sent the brindle bitch out third favourite for the race, which it won by a handy margin.

After trailing the leaders down the back straight, she came up to be three wide on the home turn and outstayed the others in the straight.

It w'as the second win in succession for Mr G. Little’s brindle bitch. She won at the Christchurch club’s first totalisator meeting in October, and ran a close second in the New Zealand Oaks in Invercargill last month.

Lisa Havoc, only the sixth favourite for the prestige event of the meeting, just edged Arithmetic out of second place. It W'as one of the closest battles of the evening, but Mr J. I. Walsh was not too worried about their finishing order — he owns both of the minor-placed dogs. Sarkhan Sal.
