By
J.J. BOYLE
The Tuahiwi trainer, Ray Harris, who prepared Greek Magic to win the Timaru
■ Gold Cup last season, hopes ' to have two runners in that I weight-for-age race on 1 December 27. [ One of his hopefuls is Brutus, winner of the ! Southland Guineas at his ! last start. The other is Le Ruler, a
' winner from Ray Wallace’s Takanmi stable last season. Le Ruler won twice at three years last season, each at the Timaru Cup distance o f 1600 m, and with earnings from minor placings added he finished last season with stakes close to $6OOO. The first of his two wins last season was in a class 4 and 5 ace. 1600 m, at Avondale last summer. He trotted up by three lengths. Later he won the Te
Aroha club’s Members’ Handicap (class 3 and 4) by two lengths, and hurried over the 1600 m in Imin 36.85.
Greek Magic, which rejoined the Harris team recently after an unrewarding spring campaign from Laurie Laxon’s Cambridge stable, will probably start his holiday racing in the fatsouth. Harris plans to campaign
Greek Magic against the sprinters at the Southland New Year meeting, with rich races at the Wellington Cup meeting to follow
Greek Magic's mission on the first day of the Wellington Cup meeting will be the Telegraph Handicap, and if he comes up well with that race he will be stepped up to 1600 m in the rich George Adams Handicap a week later.
