Selective gains
A dull Australian market was only highlighted yesterday by the performances of Westfield, David Jones, and B.H.P. B.H.P. rose 16c to 866 c. but brokers could give no reason for the improvement. David Jones edged ahead 2c to 122 c prompted by vague take-over rumours. Westfield also continued to improve, gaining 12c to 846 c on the belief that its true value should be around 900 c. according to brokers. Banking issues made small gains, retailers were mainly down, and property developers and brewers were mixed. Wormaid shed another 3c to 295 c. Gains were made by Utah, Mt Isa, BH South, and Rentson in the mixed mining section.
