Storemen to vote
Members of the Canter-■' bury Storemen and Packers’h Union will vote tomorrow [1 evening at a special meeting I! on whether to increase their! I union dues. f The present dues are 50c [ ‘ a week, but would have been i 68c a week but for a con- i troversy after a special meet- I ing at the end of last year, i That meeting voted to double the fees to 68c, but i the decision was overturned < at another special meeting in I February and the fee was set [ at 50c. The February meet- i ing was called after a peti- i tion was circulated by mem- 1 bers of the union. ’ i The secretary of the union < (Mr P. E. Piesse) said yester- i day that he hoped there >
■ would be a good turnout of ! members at tomorrow’s [meeting, which will be fol- ; lowed by an ordinary quarterly meeting. ► In the latest issue of I “Pallet,” the magazine of the union, Mr Piesse says that any change in fees will not take place until -February next year. “For the year ending February, 1980, we would expect our expenditure to be about $75,000. This is about $l5OO per week, or about 75c per member if we have 2000 members. However, we hope to keep our membership at nearer 2200, which would require only about 68c per week,” said Mr Piesse in the magazine.
