Five killed on the roads
PA Palmerston North A Palmerston North schoolteacher was killed on Sunday in a head-on collision between two cars on State Highway 56 near the Longbum dairy factory. She was Cynthia Anne Pirie, aged 45, who taught at Awatapu College. Mrs Pirie was a passenger' in a car being driven by her; husband, Leonard Walter Pirie, when the accident happened about 12.30 a.m. Mr Pirie was treated at Palmerston North Hospital and later discharged. A Kaingaroa man was found dead near his car off State Highway 38 near Kaingaroa on Sunday. The, police said the vehicle had rolled over sometime during the previous night. He was Wana Charles Dunn, a forest ranger, of Kaingaroa. He was thought to be in the late 20s. A man was killed on Sun-! day night when his car Struck a power pole and crashed into a brick wall in

She was Nancy Isobel Carr, aged 54. the only occupant of the vehicle, who is believed I to have been travelling! to Gisborne on Friday! night when the accident! occurred. Mrs Carr’s body was recovered about 3.30 p.m. on! Saturday.
