“Pollyanna,” the six-part 8.8. C. adaptation Of Eleanor H. Porter’s story of an orphan girl, begins this afternoon on SPTV. The story takes place in a small town in New England, United States, in the early years of this centu-
ry. At the age of 12 Pollyanna (Elizabeth Archard) is orphaned and she goes to live with her Aunt Polly (Elaine Stritch). From the outset Pollyanna is a sore trial to her aunt, w'hose attitude towards children is as sev-
ere as her taste in dress. However, among the other townsfolk Pollyanna quickly makes friends and admirers. She has a refusal to be downhearted in any circumstance. Before long the sick and troubled with whom she comes into contact are , playing the “Glad Game,” her own form of psychological therapy. Among those who derive benefit from playing I the game are Mrs Snow i (Bessie Love), a bedridden | invalid with a sour disj position, and Mr Pendleton ; (Ray McAnally), a wealthy i middle-aged recluse who has never recovered from ; an unhappy love affair. “Pollyanna” also has Jimmy Bean (Stephen Galloway), a young orpahn
boy in search of a home and family to look after him.
