Double century for Gavaskar
NZPA-Reuter Bombay India’s “run machine,” Sunil Gavaskar, pounded a relentless double century yesterday as his team amassed 351 for five on the second day of the first test against the West Indies at Bombay. Gavaskar’s 200 came with a sweep to the fence off Phillip in 367 min. He hit 28 fours and two sixes. He was out 30min later, showing signs of weariness after his long innings, bowled by Sylvester Clark for 205.
The brilliant innings brought Gavaskar’s scores in his last four test innings to 550. He scored a century in each innings in the third test against Pakistan at Karachi last month, following his 97 in the second innings of the previous test in Lahore.
India was all out shortly before lunch on the third day after amassing a huge total of 424 runs.
Karsan Ghavri started sensationally, bowling Basil Williams first ball when the West
Indies came in to bat, and at lunch the West Indies were two for one. INDIA First innings S. M. Gavaskar b Clarke .. 205 C. P. S. Chauhan c Greenidge b Holder 52 M. Amarnath b Clarke .. 4 G. R.
