Badminton squad leaves N.Z.
PA Auckland A Canterbury girl, Diane Erikson, is one of three New Zealand women who have forced their way into the New Zealand Badminton Federation’s overseas training squad. She joins two Auckland girls. Toni Whittaker and Karen Phillips, as the first women to be sent overseas to train by the federation.
The trio left for England this week for four months of coaching and tournament play. Graeme Robson (Auckland) also left with the women’s contingent, for four months of tournament play and coaching. He will be joined by Peter and Nigel Skelt (Southland) and Peter Whiting (Canterbury) at the end of the month.
Steven Wilson (Otago) plans to join the three men and the Kiwi quartet will stay in the London ; area for coaching by lan Chambers. The girls will stay in Birmingham.
