Three survive erash

A woman and two girls escaped serious injury when this small car was mangled in a collision with the Southerner express on a Christchurch rail crossing yesterday. “They were pretty lucky. Anyone who looks at the car can see that,” said a St John ambulance spokesman last evening. The woman, who was driving the car, and the two girl passengers, aged 19 and 15, suffered bruising and abrasions in the accident, which occurred on the Clarence Street crossing, Addington, about 6.40 pun. All three occupants of the car were taken to Christchurch Hospital. Their names and condition were not available late last evening, but nobody was seriously injured, the St John ambulance spokesman said.

The warning lights and bells on the crossing were working when the accident occurred, according to the Railways Department.
