Mr Exel resigns post

PA Wellington The Labour Party's communications director. Mr David Exel, has resigned. Confirming this yesterday, he rejected a claim made in "Truth” newspaper last week that he was leaving the post because of dissatisfaction within the party iover his performance. ! “I am leaving the job be!cause I promised myself 1 [would work for Labour for ! three years. I have done so. I am now going back to private life,” he said. Mr Exel, who worked in newspapers, television and public relations before taking the communications director’s post, was at the centre of a political storm before the last General Election when he organised the citizens tor Rowling campaign. Soon after that he left his job as public relations conI.suitant to N.Z. Forest Prod’ucts, Ltd, He subsequently joined the Labour Party and was elected to the labour policy committee at the party’s conference in May, 1976. He was appointed communications director two months later. ' Mr Exel, who said he (handed in his resignation I two months ago, does not have a new job in view. He hopes to return to I journalism or public relations. Though conceding that there may be problems in doing this in view of his political background, he says he will just have to “wait and see." He will leave his post at Christmas.
