Repeal publication launched
More than 25.000 copies of a new publication opposing the abortion laws will be distributed in Christchurch over the next two days as part of a national campaign organised by Repeal. Entitled “321,119,” the four-page tabloid newspaper takes its name from the number of signatories to the petition which Repeal presented to Parliament in September seeking the repeal of the abortion provisions of the Contraception. Sterilisation. and Abortion Act. and the Crimes Amendment Act.

The policies of the four main political parties on the abortion laws are outlined and quotations are printed" of the personal views of all Christchurch, Rangiora and Ashburton candidates on the question.
A similar format has been adopted in other parts of New Zealand where several hundred thousand copies of the tabloid are also being distributed.

Mrs Honor Bonisch said yesterday that the main aim of the publication was to ensure that the public knew all the facts about the Repeal petition. Distribution of the publication would be concentrated on marginal electorates where the facts on the abortion laws might have an influence on voting. Mrs Bonisch said. “We have ample evidence from the petition that this is an issue on which people may wish to vote. If they choose to do this, the publication will provide them with accurate data on which to base their opinions.” The publication has
been named as the official publication after the elecRepeal newspaper, and a tion will be decided upon paragraph on the last page in the light of actual elecsays that “frequency of tiqn-night developments.”
