‘PA Wellington l The insurance industry: will pay out ar least 510.3 M in meeting claims arising from last month’s floods in Southland and Otago, it was [announced yesterday. ) Mr R. F. Ward, the research officer of the Insuriance Council said that 1338 j claims had been received. The pay-out figure could I rise, he said, and was in adIciition to any sums payable ibv the Earthquake and War Damage Commission.
Mr Ward said the pay-out compared with $6.2M in respect of 2786 claims made after the Wellington-Hutt Valiev flooding of December, 1976.’ The insurance industry’s Emergency Bureau set up at : Mataura after the floods, had received 70 claim forms from persons who were uninsured. and many others had found that they were underinsured. Most domestic claims had now been settled, Mr Ward said.
