I PA Auckland I : The World Series Cricket tour < finished abruptly at Mount i Smart Stadium y esterday, and in I a tense finish the World XI took the limited-over match from the 'Australians by one wicket. ,s The hard, bare pitch again suited the faster bowlers — ' especially when there was an • occasional low bounce — and the scoring was modest. The Aus- ! tralians finished on 118 and the World XI made 122 for nine. i Richard Hadlee led the World 1 XI in a spectacular assault on the Australian batsmen, remov ing lan Davis and lan Chappell I in consecutive overs. Mike Prociter had Rick McCosker lbw and I the Australians never recovered ] I after being II for three wickets. 1 i Hadlee finished with four 1 ' wickets for 25, coming back to I break a stubborn stand by Doug Walters and Rod Marsh. He 1 bowled with fire and accuracy.! and later won the prize as the i i outstanding player of the tour.*!
Some free hitting by Collis King and a grim fight for 46 by Clive Rice produced the main substance in the World innings, but it took some cool work b\ Procter to stop a late Australia! rally when four wicket* fell for [six runs.
