Designer has wide experience

% The designer of Hallensteins’ new decor is lan Dale of Christchurch, an, interior designer and shopfitting consultant with I wide overseas experience. ' Glascow-born Mr Dale specialised in re-designing retail shops, bars and hotels when he worked in Britain and Europe for the Cadbury-Schweepes Group, but improving the look and functioning of shops has always had a special fascination for him. lan Dale came to New Zealand in 1971, and went

into business on his own two years ago. He says it has been a pleasure to work with Hallensteins, . and feels the joint project has been a successful one. The main problem in the re-construction was to blend the two buildings now occupied by the firm, I so that they looked like one. This was done by put- , ting in one sweeping ver- I anda roof, and matching colour and window design right along the facade. Mr Dale considers that Hallensteins riowhas one of

Christchurch’s most effective window display areas. Inside, the keynote is flexibility.

Mr Dale is currently designing two new floors for the Queen Street, branch- of Whitcoulls in Auckland. When this is

completed he will go on to give all Whitcoulls shops in New Zealand a new look.
