Selwyn voters 'lose confidence in main parties’

Residents in the Selwyn electorate have lost confidence in both the National and Labour parties and do not know who to vote for according to the Social Credit candidate for the electorate (Mr J. D. Gribbnen).

Mr Gribben was addressing an .audience of about 20 people through a loudhailer on street corners in his electorate.

He said that the residents i he had spoken to in the last few weeks had mostly been I young people who were tired I of National’s "sour prune”! [housing policy. | Mr Gribben said that Social I Credit intended to make ‘ New Zealand a proprietary State and would encourage > young people to own their i own homes, businesses, and I farms. ' Social Credit proposes Government loans at 3 per

cent interest on first homes; and home-savings deposits made in any one year would not be subject to income tax. To reduce unemployment, | Social Credit suggests extending New Zealand’s range of export productsand exchanging trade credits, mainly with the Third World. If increased trading! did not result, Social Credit proposes instituting a four-! day working week. Under Social Credit, no one-income family would pay tax on less than $100! may a week; and the hubo-! ' dometer tax would be abo-1 lished.

Mr Gribben is confident! that Social Credit will win more seats this election and says that many people to [whom he has talked would I like to see Mr Beetham as I either Prime Minister or ‘Leader of the Opposition.
