General Election
Sir, — Among the published list of candidates for this year’s General Election, there are no serious organised contenders to represent an extreme Right wing, Fascist oi National Front-type political party. In the past the ignorant have had a small clutch of candidates to represent their bigotry. This is not the case in this election. It can therefore only be assumed that the advocates of. fascism consider the National Government to be carrying out a passable job in implementing the policies of the extreme Right, and consider it unnecessary to field candidates in this election. — Yours, etc., D. W. O. JONES. November 8, 1978.
(The correspondent has missed one — a National Socialist candidate — Editor)
Sir, — The political candidates should be warned of what they may be up against. Last evening I was almost knocked from my motor-cycle by a right-turn-ing motorist who was dully staring at a political meeting on the street corner to his left. Even the screech of my brakes and a volley of abuse did not stir him from his torpor, and he drove on his way as if nothing had happened. If seeing a human life in danger will not arouse such a person, what hope do the political candidates have of interesting him in relatively more important issues such as the economy or the preservation of civil liberties? — Yours, etc., G. A. STRANGE. November 8, 1978. Sir, — Mr Excel says that when a document kept under lock and key in a private office is stolen, it is “hilarious.” Mr Rowling obviously thinks it is funny.
wheti a break-in is attempted on a house occupied by women alone. If this is the attitude of so-called responsible citizens of this country, is it any wonder that crime is rife? — Yours, etc.,
J. MILLER (Mrs). November 8, 1978.
