Lot of interest in sheep group
A new branch of the Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders’ Association of New Zealand was formed at a meeting at Lincoln at the end of last month. It is the Central Canterbury branch. A measure of the interest in the organisation, j which is directed at the I improvement of black and I coloured sheep and their | woof, is that some 78 ati tended and there were 21 apologies. People came i from as far away as Cheviot. The first branch of the association in the South Island was formed in Mid-Canterbury about a year ago. The president of the new branch is Mr A. Ward (Brookside). Mr C. Tilson (Prebbleton) is vicepresident and Mrs M. .1. Haskett (West Melton) is
the secretary. Mrs Haskett has been secretary of the Ashburton branch, which
has 26 members, and she is also a member of the council of the national organisation.
A steering committee has been appointed for the first year and it includes Mrs J. Bath (Southbridge) and Misses M. Murray (Amberley) and L. Macbeth (Prebbleton) and Messrs R. Manson (Irwell), N. Grimwood (Halswell Road), and D. P. Graham (Tai Tapu).
A further meeting is to be held at Lincoln on December 6 and it is hoped also to have a field day in North Canterbury in February.
Mrs Haskett also said it was intended to have a display in the borne industry section at the Canterbury show this week of black and coloured sheep and products made from their wool. This was being done through the Mid-Canterbury group working with commercial interests.
