Some pupils off today
Some pupils can legitimately take the dav off school today and enjoy an extra-long Show weekend. However, it seems that most will still have to wear uniform depending on the school’s policy on the mid-term break last term. State primary schools in Christchurch will not be closed today if they had a mid-term break, for the school must be open for 400 half-days each year.
State secondary schools will be open or closed ' depending on whether they took one or two days for mid-term break. These schools must be open for 190 days a year. The general manager of the Christchurch Second- ■ ary Schools’ Council (Mr M.' J. Richards) said that ' as far as he knew, only ■ Cashmere High School and Hornby High School would be closed today.
