Junior school to move
The St Margaret’s College junior school will leave its Springfield Road site early next year to join the senior school on the college’s main propertv in Winchester Street. Work has begun on converting an existing art and geography block at Winchester Street into four classrooms and ancillary facilities for the 79 junior
school pupils. This should be ready by the first term of next year. The architect for the work is Mr T. L. Mitchell, of Christchurch, and the contractor is Maurice Carter, Ltd. A sketch plan of the building is shown. The art and geography block became vacant earlier this year when the new Molly Mullan social
studies and science wing opened, providing six additional classrooms for senior girls. When the junior school leaves Springfield Road, where it has been since 1967, the site will revert to its owner, the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch. The site was once occupied by the Victory Memorial School.
