New faces at table tennis
Many players made their; debuts in the A grade table | teams championship when the; opening round of the summer competition was held. The fancied teams won com-1 fortably, although Avonside II was extended to 7-5 by Linwood i 11. The Linwood juniors, Michael Prisk and Michael Burrowes, did extremely' well to beat the more experienced Bert Thompson and Bruce Clark. Prisk also beat the country’s second-ranked woman, Jan Morris. Athough Riccarton I won easily enough against Kaiapoi, there was an upset result when Bob Loudon (Kaiapoi i won in three games against Alistair Armstrong.
