Knight still grounded

The AU Blacks yesterday left for Northern Ireland and for their next game, against Ulster at Belfast on Wednesday morning (New Zealand time), and will be without their prop, Gary Knight. Knight, who has a skin infection which is taking a long time to heal, will stay in hospital in Dublin at least until Wednesday and it is hoped that he will be able to Join the team again in Cardiff later this week. The manager (Mr Rus-

sell Thomas) said yesterday that Knight had been taken off penicillin and was being treated with lotions. However, after differing medical views noone seems to know the exact nature of the infection, which was transmitted to the team by an opposing player in the opening game against Cambridge nearly three weeks ago. It had been hoped that Knight would be released from hospital to watch yesterday’s test, but per-

mission was not given and he watched the match on television. Mr Thomas said that Knight would stay in hospital until he had completely recovered. He added that no thought had been given to a replacement. Brian Ford pulled a muscle in his left leg in yesterday’s test and he wil> probably miss the next three games. Clive Currie received a cut on the fae e which required stitches.
