when he won the race two years earlier. Heidsieck is second topweight with 55.0 in a capacity field for this year’s cup. He is 2 kg below Royal Cadenza, winner of the 1977 Auckland Cup with Bob Skelton as rider. Royal Cadenza’s New Zealand Cup rider will be Paul Hillis. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s historic staying race is the second leg of a special T.A.B. N.Z. Cups double this week.
