Strike by cleaners?
Christchurch cleaners, caretakers, and security officers will attend a special meeting of their union in Christchurch tomorrow to vote on strike action. The union’s secretary (Mr G. Cumming) said yesterday that the employers had refused to negotiate with the union in Wellington last month. The employers had said they would not negotiate a national award unless the Auckland union took part. But the Caretakers, Cleaners, and Security Officers’ Federation says that Auckland is a separate union. The employers were trying to delay award negotiations to save themselves money, said Mr Cummjjig.
