Northern sewage plant reported on again
The proposed northern i sewage-treatment plant came t another step closer to realis-i ation when the Waimairi County Council’s towmplanning committee con- i sidered a report of a meeting it had last month 1 with the Christchurch Drain- : age Board. The board had earlier assured the council that the i proposed plant would be adequately screened from view by existing plantations. The board had also recommended that rural zoning i should be maintained, which would prohibit close settlement, and that rural indus-
trial zoning should be re-:: jtained in the area. j Mr D. B. Rich, said thej matter would have to be considered in the District ' scheme review. < The committee asked its hearings subcommittee to re- i port to the council’s Novem- : oer meeting on an application by M. E. Fraemohs and Son, Ltd, to establish a dry-rendering feed-metal I plant at 1200 Main North Road. The committee recommended that the council sup- < port the Canterbury Regional Planning Authority’s desire to become a mari- 1
;time-planning authority fori Canterbury provided that I management powers in thei area were delegated to the I territorial local authorities j concerned. Building permits issued \ during October totaled 251 for new dwellings compared; with .17 in the same month ! last year. Their total value! was $786,969 compared with $468,533. Total permits for all buildings and additions numbered 171 compared with 145 in October, 1977. At October 31, 400 houses were under construction in The county.
