Research grants of more than $lO,OOO have been made! to the University of Canterbury. The New Zealand EnergyResearch and Development Committee has given $6BOO to Dr J. D Bradshaw of the geblogy department, to studycoal geochemistry. Mr W. N Vant. of the joint centre for environmen-
tai sciences, has received a grant of $2lOO from the Commission for the Future for his work on simulation games dealing with future planning. The Child Health Research ’ Foundation has provided a grant of $1462 to Professor P. J. Lawrence, of the education department, for a comparative study of readers’ perceptual skills.
