Overture over Ulster
NZPA-Reuter Dublin The political backers of the Provisional wing of the Irish Republican Army voted at the week-end for talks with their traditional enemies, the Ulster Loyalists, aimed at a British withdrawal from Northern Ireland. The Provisional Sinn Fein vote came after their president, Mr Rory O’Brady, told their annual conference that violence in Northern Ireland was “the final and victorious phase of a century-old epic' fight.” The conference in Dublin supported by a large majority the principle of discussions with the Protestant para-military organisation, who have still to agree to talk.
