Flood relief

Sir, — “The Press” has reimbursed regular subscribers by giving them free papers over the last six days. I am giving the equivalent of the usual price of those papers to the flood fund for the relief of the Otago and Southland people who were uninsured and to assist in a small way some of the little men and women who are big people in their courage to carry on there. Will others do likewise? — Yours, etc., (Mrs) D. DUFF. October 21, 1978. Sir, — This letter fully supports that of R. Hyland (October 19) because $5O from each member of Parliament for flood relief announced by the Prime Minister is “peanuts” compared with their salaries. I am sure many members of Parliament will make their own decisions as to how much

they will give. If a working man or a professional one wants back pay he has to strike to obtain it but members of Parliament receive it as a right as well as perks too numerous to mention. — Yours, etc.,

E. BROOKER. October 20, 1978.
